Controladora RAID HPE MR216I-O GEN11 SPDM STORAGE PCI 4.0 SAS SATA

The HPE MR216I-O Gen11 SPDM is a PCIe 4.0 storage RAID controller that supports SAS and SATA drives and implements Broadcom MegaRAID technology. Designed for data center and virtualized environments, it provides a range of RAID levels (0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60) for data redundancy and performance optimization while offering high bandwidth and hardware-level security features.

Advantages

The controller delivers high throughput with up to 13.7 GB/s bandwidth and eight PCIe Gen4 host lanes, plus strong I/O performance including up to 3 million random read IOPS and up to 240K RAID5 random write IOPS. Security is enhanced through HPE Silicon Root of Trust for firmware authentication, support for self-encrypting drives, and SPDM certificate-based authentication with HPE iLO6. Management options include a full tool suite with CLI, web-based management, and out-of-band support, and it is compatible with major operating systems such as Windows, Linux, and VMware.

Suitable for

• Enterprise data centers requiring RAID-protected storage
• Virtualized environments using HBA/pass-through mode
• Workloads that demand high random read/write IOPS and reduced RAID rebuild times
• Environments where firmware authentication and data-at-rest encryption are required

How to use

Install the HPE MR216I-O Gen11 controller into a compatible PCIe 4.0 slot following your server hardware installation guidelines. Connect supported SAS or SATA drives to the controller backplane or cabling according to the server design. Configure RAID arrays and firmware settings using the provided management tools—either the CLI, web interface, or out-of-band management—then initialize and verify arrays before placing them into production.

Recommendations

Use the controller in systems with PCIe Gen4 support to achieve advertised bandwidth and IOPS. When deploying RAID5 or other parity RAID levels, monitor rebuild operations and consider hot spare configurations to reduce rebuild times. Enable firmware authentication and SED support where regulatory or security requirements mandate data-at-rest protection.
