The EXSYS EX-1012 adds four conventional PCI slots to a computer through the included PCI Express x1 host card. The external metal enclosure accommodates compatible 5 V and 3.3 V PCI I/O cards such as serial, parallel, USB or FireWire interface cards.

The USB-C-shaped cable is used only to connect the expansion box to its supplied PCIe host card. The box cannot be connected directly to an ordinary USB-C port on a laptop or desktop. The expansion hardware itself needs no additional driver; installed PCI cards may require their own drivers. The package contains the enclosure, PCIe host card, low-profile bracket, interconnect cable, power adapter and manual.
