DEUTER Futura Air Trek 50 L is a top-loading trekking backpack designed for mountaineering, multi-day hikes and extended outdoor travel. The pack offers a 50 L main volume and can be expanded to 60 L via a height-adjustable lid. Its Aircomfort/Air back system provides continuous airflow across the back, while the VariSlide system and adjustable components allow a customised fit for many body shapes. At around 2.05 kg, the backpack balances load capacity with manageable weight and includes organized compartments and attachment points for technical gear.

Advantages

The backpack combines a ventilated Aircomfort mesh back with a round profile spring-steel frame to keep the load stable and improve carrying comfort on long tours. Adjustable elements such as the VariSlide back-length system, VariFlex hip fins and pull-forward hip belt allow fine tuning of the fit, and front zip access together with a separate bottom compartment support organised packing. Practical features like a rain cover, stretch side pockets, ice-axe attachment and compatibility with a 3.0 L drinking system increase the pack's utility for mountaineering and trekking.

How to use

Adjust the back length using the VariSlide system to match your torso length, then set the shoulder straps and pull-forward hip fins so the hip belt sits firmly on the pelvis. Load heavier items close to the back and use the separate bottom compartment for sleeping gear or items you need quick access to. Use compression straps to stabilise the contents and the front zip access for reaching mid-pack items without unpacking the top. Attach technical equipment such as an ice axe or helmet to the dedicated loops and connect a 3.0 L hydration bladder if required. The Aircomfort back will provide ventilation while you walk; use the rain cover in wet conditions.

What to consider before purchase

Recommendations

For best comfort on long treks, set the VariSlide and hip fins before fully loading the pack and redistribute heavy items close to the frame. Regularly adjust load straps during the day to maintain balance and use the Aircomfort mesh for steady ventilation; deploy the rain cover when conditions turn wet.
