Why choose it

The UT682 stands out for its dual functionality: it not only tests and maps network cables but also serves as an analog tone generator for tracing wires. Its ability to handle RJ45, RJ11, and bare wires makes it a versatile addition to any toolkit. The receiver includes a built-in flashlight and headphone jack for use in dark or noisy environments, and auto power off helps conserve battery life.

Ideal use cases

• Identifying and tracing cables in walls, ceilings, or patch panels
• Verifying correct wiring of RJ45 and RJ11 terminations
• Locating opens, shorts, crosses, reversals, and split pairs
• Polarity testing on telephone lines
• On-site troubleshooting by network technicians and electricians

Good to know

The UT682 is powered by two standard 9 V batteries (one for the transmitter, one for the receiver), which are easy to replace. The analog tone generator provides a clear, audible signal that can be traced over long distances, especially on telephone lines. With its compact design and included alligator clips, this tester is ready for both bench and field use.
